Who are you?
You don't really care about us, you came here for the jewelry. You seriously wanna know? I'm the owner; the Super Mac Daddy Big Cheese who started this joint in 2007 with nothing. I'm really nice, and usually professional, until you jerk me around. I have several trusted associates that help me run it now. Another extremely talented jewelry maker, a treasurer, and a handful of really amazing, beautiful jewelry models, which is awesome. EE is on it's way to being ten times the rinky-dink little outfit it used to be. So go on, it's okay. Be as proud of it as I am!
Where are all the handbags at?
They're all sewn with needle and thread, not a sewing machine. It takes me a minimum of three days to make each one. Right now the majority of the ones I had were either sold or given away as gifts, but a whole other slew of new, fancy ones are being worked on right now. Pictures are coming very soon.
Why don't you ship outside the U.S.?
Actually, I'm willing to. It's just that the weight and shipping matrix for this site are annoying and I'm not smart enough to figure them out. If you're from another country and are interested in an item, email me and we'll work something out.
There are ten million other jewelry sites out there. Why should I buy yours?
Because gift cards add up, and by shopping at Walmart or JC Penney, you aren't helping the retail workers there make any more money. Esoteric Essentials is a small company comprised of starving artists, not a faceless conglomerate. You're helping real people fight the cost-of-living crisis in New York City. We understand how difficult it is to make ends meet. In fact, if you live in or around New York City and don't feel like paying shipping costs, let's do business lunch in person. A pledge of mine that we're based on is that we stand behind our products. If your necklace or whatever breaks within a year, or it turns out to be too big or small, mail us back all the parts and we'll restring it for just the cost of shipping. (Providing we don't have to order more parts) Believe me, you won't get that kind of deal at Walmart or JC Penney.
How long do I have to wait for you to ship my order to me?
98% Of the items shown here are already made, I just have to package them up and ship 'em out. It usually takes about 2-3 days, plus I get tracking on it, just in case. If I'm specially making something for you, it takes a few days more for me to get the items and make the stuff. If it's a large order I'll let you know approximately how long you'll be waiting, but it's usually within a week or so.
When and where can I find you at a flea market?
I sort of have a full-time job right now and haven't done flea markets in a while. And even if I did, the flea market season is pretty much over. I may start up again next spring, depending on my schedule, so keep an eye out. In the meantime, we always have the internets. Ahh, sweet internets!
How come you don't do COD anymore?
Between the cost of the actual COD, the insurance and shipping, I end up spending more than I'm actually making off the sale itself. Besides, the post office will make you spend an extra $1.10 just to turn your cash into a money order so they can send it back to me. Do we really want to put ourselves through all that?
What does "esoteric" mean?
Es-o-ter-ic: (adjective) understood by or meant for only the select few who have special knowledge or interest. I named the company this as a sort of joke; because I never had any money to advertise or expand, it would always remain an obscure flea market staple. Plus, all the religious, occult and GLBT themes of the jewelry made it almost poetic. If you're still scratching your heads, it's very possible the name could just make sense to me.
Whoa. There was like, lots of stuff here and now most of it's gone. What gives??
I had to put this business on hold for a while because financial issues forced me to get a night job. (This is why I needed extra hands to run it!) However, we're coming back hardcore so prepare to see an extreme change in inventory over the next several weeks. Fingers crossed, we should be fully stocked by the holidays. Are you excited? You should be.
Do you restring old jewelry, and will it be cheaper?
Yes and yes. Reach out to us by clicking the "contact" button on the lower right-hand side of the screen. Email either my associate or I and explain the situation. We'll provide a mailing address for you to send the parts to. Restringing/reclasping should only take a day or two, depending on our workload at the time. We'll give it to you straight. And since we don't have to buy the materials, it will be significantly cheaper than one of our pieces.
If I only have a handful of beads, can you make something out of it?
We can and we have. When my mother died, she left behind a battlefield of orphan beads and necklace parts without mates. Using those parts, we've created key chains, bracelets, anklets, totem necklaces, wind chimes and even charms you hook up to the rearview mirror of your car. Let us know what you have and what you want, we'll be able to work something out.
